Psalm 139:13 For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.

I recently read that after the famous painting "Mona Lisa" was stolen, more people came to visit the empty spot where it had hung than had come to see the actual painting. Wow. Really? After the fact? But they missed out on the world renowned, unforgettable piece of art. How often do we feel that way? Sometimes an opportunity, perhaps an individual or event.

However, that first thought was momentary. Even with the actual painting gone, people continued to come see for themselves. Why come when there is nothing to visibly see? Why even stop at the spot and linger? Perhaps because what the average person knows about the "Mona Lisa" draws one in anyway. Face it, some where, some time, everyone has heard something about this famous painting.

Then I thought, this concept should be parallel to the Christian life. I should, we should, live our lives in such a way that when we are gone, others still seek that special something we are known for. That something that is made in the image of Christ. That something that sets us apart. Not me/us specifically. But the Inspiration that created us and brought us to life. That still life artwork did it's job. It caused people to stop and contemplate, to look to the artist that created it. How much more incredible and creative and Sovereign is our Creator! And, we are not a still life on display in one spot. We are alive and able to speak and function and impact others.

Truthfully, this made me aware that I take this for granted. And I do not consciously make it a point to inspire others to seek my/our Creator. That still life painting does a better job than this uniquely and deliberately created vessel God intentionally gave life to. Both physical and eternal life, by the way. Yet I have a will to choose a personal relationship with God my Creator, to speak of Him, to lead others to Him, to mimic Him with my actions.

Food for thought. When they come to look at our empty spot, will they think oh I missed it, or what a shame? Or will they think of the Creator? Will they be inspired by how our lives reflected our Creator and be drawn to know Him more? Unlike the inanimate object of a piece of art, we have the beautiful opportunity to use our living physical minds and bodies to daily inspire others to look to the God who created each of us and wants deep relationship with each of us.

They say when you focus on what you want to accomplish, it comes about. May we focus on reflecting our Father God who hand knit us with deliberate intent and purpose.

I encourage you to read the entire passage of Psalm 139. You are more unique that any famous painting.

Be Inspired. Be Inspiring.
